ACTION ALERT! Mobile City Council Votes Tomorrow (Feb 4th)
February 3, 2020
I want to personally thank you for your continued efforts in helping us and the Southern Rail Commission bring passenger rail back to the Gulf Coast. Your calls and letters to the Mobile City Council over the last month have made an impact. Tomorrow is the day we have all been waiting for. The Council will finally vote whether or not to endorse a resolution committing financial support toward the restoration of Amtrak service - $3.048 million over three years in potential matching funds that will be combined with federal grant monies and similar funding from Mississippi and Louisiana to help pay operational costs of a route that will connect daily train service connecting New Orleans, Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis, and Mobile.
We have one final ask! If you live in Mobile, or can be there tomorrow - please attend this pivotal meeting and show the Council and the media just how passionate the rail advocacy community is.
The meeting will take place at: 205 Government Street in Mobile starting at 10 am central.
If you can not be there in person, you can watch along through the official city livestream.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the Rail Passengers Association for my efforts to strengthen and expand America’s passenger rail. Golden spikes were once used by railroads to mark the completion of important rail projects, so I am truly grateful to receive the Golden Spike Award as a way to mark the end of a career that I’ve spent fighting to invest in our country’s rail system. As Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, it has been my priority to bolster funding for Amtrak, increase and expand routes, look to the future by supporting high-speed projects, and improve safety, culminating in $66 billion in new funding in the Bipartisan infrastructure Law."
Representative Peter DeFazio (OR-04)
